Hey folks,
Thanks for checking out the Garden Dude forum! I'm Rudie Verougstraete, aka "The Garden Dude." I got into gardening about 9 years ago, almost by accident. I had just started going to community college to get a degree in web design. In the meantime, I was living at home and helping my parents with yard work on weekends. It felt like a real chore at first, but over time, as we cleared space in the yard for a garden and started planting things and spreading mulch, I found myself increasingly enjoying seeing it all come together. Eventually, I enjoyed it so much that I actually took over responsibility for maintaining the garden and adding to it. The web design stuff wasn't working out at school, so I decided to switch majors and attend a different community college to study horticulture. I figured, why not be able to make a career out of doing what I love, working with plants? Several years later I graduated with a degree in horticulture, and started my own landscaping business.
In May of this year I got married and move out to a small brick rancher in the country with a lot of land behind the property, and am currently working on getting that cleared so we can get a big vegetable garden going hopefully next spring!
